A very warm welcome to all students, fellows, and staff joining Clare Hall this year!

What is the Clare Hall Boat Club? 

Clare Hall Boat Club (CHBC) is our college’s official rowing club, and whether you’ve never rowed before, or are already a competitive sweeper, sculler or cox, we’d love to have you join. With the beautiful river Cam right on our doorstep, rowing is central to the Cambridge experience, and CHBC is a core part of the Clare Hall community.

What if I’ve never rowed before?

We offer (completely free!) training and coaching to new rowers and coxes, with novice competitions starting from as early as this term! And next year, our teams will compete in the famous (and extremely fun!) Cambridge Bumps races – even as a novice, you might be able to secure yourself a seat 🙂

How can I join?

If you’re at all interested, fill in the sign-up form and come along to our taster day on Saturday the 11th of October and we’ll give you a crash-course on rowing and even get you into a boat by the end of the session.

  • The induction takes place from 11:00-16:30 on Saturday 11th October at the Clare Boathouse (we share our boathouse with Clare College). 
  • BBQ food will be served (free)!
  • We tell you your time slot in advance (11:00-12:30, 13:00-14:30, 15:00-16:30)
  • If you can’t attend but think you might be interested in participating with the boat club, don’t worry! Please still fill out the Google form and we’ll be in touch about future outings.

Where can I find you?

We’ll be at the Sports and Societies Fair this Saturday 4th October – come chat to us and learn more! There will be a competition and some prizes on offer too… Additionally, we’re organising a GSBxCHBC party on Sunday 12th October – come along for some great music and more chats! You’ll also often see our members around Clare Hall (usually showing off our lovely CHBC merch!), feel free to say hi at any time 🙂

Whether you choose to row competitively, on a more casual basis, or just to come along and support your college team, we look forward to seeing you out on the river soon!
